Hatherleigh Community Primary School Caring about learning and learning to care

Miss Jane Ruston

I was appointed a parent governor in June 2015.  I have previously been a trustee of Exbourne Pre-School acting as treasurer and secretary over a period of 4 years.  I have one daughter at the school and another one who will be starting next September.  We live in Iddesleigh and chose Hatherleigh School because we loved the caring, supportive atmosphere that we found when we came to visit.  We continue to think that the school offers all children, regardless of their backgrounds, talents and abilities, the best start in life.

I am passionate about education and for the opportunities and life chances that it can bring to all children in this exciting and challenging world where they will take their place.  I volunteer at the school to hear the children in KS1 read.  Every week I am filled with awe at how quickly and competently our children develop their reading skills and flourish in the classroom; so ably supported by their wonderful teachers.

Educated at an all girls school in London I went to university to study law. I qualified as a solicitor in the 90s and have been practising corporate, commercial and employment law ever since. I also sit on the Finance, Personnel and Premises and the Pay and Performance Committees.
