150th Anniversary

All of our preparations for our 150^th Anniversary made the 2 day event really special. In the weeks running up to the day, each child made a clay plaque as a keepsake and these were part of our impressive Art exhibition. We gathered together and displayed a wide range of pieces of artwork showcasing work including colour mixing, sculpture, clay, collage, textiles and working in styles of artists. We also had their Summer term portfolio , a sketch of the school, on display showing their observational skills.

Our celebrations on Friday included a tea party on the field, which was made all the more special by staff and most children dressing up in smart garden party outfits. All the children had made a hat which was shown off as each class paraded the length of the tables. Thanks to the kitchen staff, we also all had delicious cakes to eat. To end our school celebrations, we performed the whole school song and dance, choreographed by Roberta, which they had performed at the Spring Concert. The words for the old school song had been found, and with a new tune, composed by Hugh Lea, the whole school had learnt this and performed it together. With funding from the Egan family, each family were given a copy of the commemorative book created by Sarah Squires.

Preparations for the Saturday Summer Fayre started early despite a worryingly wet start to the day. The sun finally came out before visitors started to arrive. Stalls, games, a BBQ and a bar were run by our wonderful PTFA and staff. Many pupils and families, both past and present, joined us for the afternoon and enjoyed reminiscing as they met old friends and looked round school. The History Society had put together an incredible collection of old photographs which were displayed in the Rainbow room, sparking many memories and stories. The slideshows which were running in each class, created by teaching staff are below for you to have another look.

Special events in Hatherleigh aren't right without the fantastic music from Hatherleigh Silver Band who performed twice during the afternoon. As the focus was mainly on the past, we also looked towards the future with a confident performance from Hatherleigh Silver's Training Band. Between their performances, music was provided by Andrew Bennett and his disco set and bubbles.

We all know what a special place Hatherleigh School is and it was only fitting that we were able to share this momentous occasion with so many members of the community.
