At Hatherleigh School we aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. 

Creative Thursday gives them access to different elements of art including sketching, sculpture, textiles and colour mixing. This complements learning in class where they have the opportunity to use different medium and respond to different stimuli.

Art in classes 2026-2027 

YR Axel Scheffler drawing and painting

YR made our own leaf people

Year 4 have used digital art and their painting skills to create some cubism work with a modern twist,

Year 5 have begun their work on representing movement with lines.

11.9 Year 4 have been working on their colour mixing skills to create a rnage of colurs in their colour wheels.

Art in classes 2025-2026

 

May. Year 4 continued their design work after looking at the work of William Morris. With a little help from the photocopier, they created a repeated pattern design.

Spring 2. Linked to their work on French culture they looked at Matisse's work.

Autumn 1 . Year R. Some children made clay animals working on their fine motor skills

Autumn 2 . YR As part of their work on the book Supertato, Chestnuts made their own super vegetables.
