Athenians vs Spartans
We learned about the differences between life in Athens and Sparta for men and women and how their marriages were different. Spartans get married after both proving their strength, including the man having to lift the lady. The young lady would burn her dolls as sign that she had grown up but then they didn't live together. The Athenian girl was married as soon as her father shook hands with the man. They didn't meet until their wedding day.
Athenians lived in a Democracy. When electing a new leader the Athenian men gave a speech to say why they should be the leader and the men voted by putting a coin ina pot in front of the candidates. Spartans took a more physical appoorach with a battle of strength to choose their leader who would then make all the decisions for the city.
